Margareta Skantze är författare, dramatiker och regissör. Hon har en bakgrund som producent av utbildnings- och kulturprogram vid Sveriges Radio, dramaturg vid Stockholms Stadsteater och översättare av fransk skönlitteratur. Hon har skrivit och iscensatt ett femtontal dramer, alla med starka och sammansatta kvinnor i bärande roller. Om dessa manuskript till sju kvinnomonologer skriver hon: "Dessa monologer bygger på mitt livslånga utforskande av den kvinnliga identiteten. De kvinnor som jag porträtterar har alla var och en på sitt sätt bidragit till att vidga mitt synfält. De är starka, egensinniga och passionerade. De har levt stormiga liv, de har sökt utmaningarna och de svåra uppdragen och de har trots alla motgångar aldrig övergivit sina visioner. Bakom varje monolog ligger omfattande studier. Innan jag sätter pennan till papperet har jag läst allt jag kan hitta i form av biografier, brev, memoarer och dagböcker. Jag har skärskådat målade porträtt och fotografier. Jag har sökt återspeglingar av mitt eget själsliv och mina egna livserfarenheter för att hitta en förståelse på ett emotionellt plan. Som dramatiker har jag en konstnärlig frihet, en licentia poetica, att tyda undertoner i de skriftliga fragmenten, att läsa mellan raderna och fylla i med egna tolkningar. En fråga som hela tiden återkommer är hur långt denna konstnärliga frihet sträcker sig. Jag har vinnlagt mig om att tolka kvinnorna utifrån deras egen samtid och inte försökt anpassa dem till vår tids värderingar och tänkesätt." Monologerna är tänkta både som läsupplevelse och för att iscensättas. De är följande: - Maria - En moders tankar vid sin sons avrättning för tvåtusen år sedan. - Maria Magdalena - Kvinnan som axlade uppdraget att förkunna livets seger över döden. - Hildegard av Bingen - En profetisk stämma som ljuder rakt in i vår egen tid över ett niohundraårigt svalg. - Drottning Margareta - En regent i kamp för sin politiska vision om ett enat Norden och det pris hon fick betala. - Olympe de Gouges - En glödande revolutionär som också var hängiven monarkist håller ett brandtal på schavotten. - Selma Lagerlöf - Sveriges diktardrottning i en häftig uppgörelse med sig själv, med sin samtid och med Gud. - Elin Wägner - Feministen som älskade män ger röst åt sin vision om en värld där kriget inte längre finns.
