My Song of Life & the Maharishi Years

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Read this Book It's the One 'ByHalley's Cometon July 5, 2018Format: Paperback' This book is a little gem - thank you Rick Stanley At a time when the 'Old Timers' are starting to publish a flurry of memoirs of their years with Maharishi, most are sorry excuses for writing, many are ax-grinding exercises from disgruntled or disaffected Utopians, and some are outright attempts to cash in on any association with a famous teacher they can muster. Trust me, my husband and I have read too many of them, and we can help. Buy and read Rick Stanley's account, and you won't need to waste time on badly written 'others.' First of all, Rick can write. Yay We learn that Rick earned a Masters degree in Creative Writing along the way, so that is good to see, in addition to his being a chief Troubadour in Maharishi's entourage in the early days in the West. The book is compelling, entertaining, evocative, and intelligent - let's mention the latter adjective again - this book is

Patriot

The powerful and moving memoir of a fearless political opposition leader who paid the ultimate price for his beliefs. Alexei Navalny began writing PATRIOT shortly after his near-fatal poisoning in 2020. It is the full story of his life: his youth, his call to activism, his marriage and family, his commitment to challenging a world super-power determined to silence him, and his total conviction that change cannot be resisted - and will come.In vivid, page-turning detail, including never-before-seen correspondence from prison, Navalny recounts, among other things, his political career, the many attempts on his life, and the lives of the people closest to him, and the relentless campaign he and his team waged against an increasingly dictatorial regime.Written with the passion, wit, candour and bravery for which he was justly acclaimed, PATRIOT is Navalny's final letter to the world: a moving account of his last years spent in the most brutal prison on earth; a reminder of why the principles of individual freedom matter so deeply; and a rousing call to continue the work for which he sacrificed his life.'This book is a testament not only to Alexei's life, but to his unwavering commitment to the fight against dictatorship - a fight he gave everything for, including his life. Through its pages, readers will come to know the man I loved deeply - a man of profound integrity and unyielding courage. Sharing his story will not only honour his memory but also inspire others to stand up for what is right and to never lose sight of the values that truly matter.' - Yulia Navalnaya

Tupac Shakur

The authorized biography of the legendary artist, Tupac Shakur, a "touching, empathetic portrait" (The New York Times) of his life and powerful legacy, fully illustrated with photos, mementos, handwritten poetry, musings, and moreArtist, poet, actor, revolutionary, legend Tupac Shakur is one of the greatest and most controversial artists of all time. More than a quarter of a century after his tragic death in 1996 at the age of just twenty-five, he continues to be one of the most misunderstood, complicated, and influential figures in modern history. Drawing on exclusive access to Tupac's private notebooks, letters, and uncensored conversations with those who loved and knew him best, this estate-authorized biography paints the fullest and most intimate picture to date of the young man who became a legend for generations to come. In Tupac Shakur, author and screenwriter Staci Robinson-who knew Tupac from their shared circle of high school friends in Marin City, California, and who was entrusted by his mother, Afeni Shakur, to share his story-unravels the myths and unpacks the complexities that have shadowed Tupac's existence. Decades in the making, this book pulls back the curtain to reveal a powerful story of a life defined by politics and art-a man driven by equal parts brilliance and impulsiveness, steeped in the rich intellectual tradition of Black empowerment, and unafraid to utter raw truths about race in America. It is a story of a mother and son bound together by a love for each other and for their people, and the relationship that endured through their darkest times. It is a political story that begins in the whirlwind of the 1960s civil rights movement and unfolds through a young artist's awakening to rage and purpose in the '90s era of Rodney King. It is a story of dizzying success and its devastating consequences. And, of course, it is the story of Tupac's music, his timeless, undying message as it continues to touch and inspire us today.
