THE NO. 1 BESTSELLING, LIFE-CHANGING PHENOMENON – SUNDAY TIMES and NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER 'Every bit as beautiful and healing as the season itself' – ELIZABETH GILBERT, bestselling author of Eat, Pray, Love A stunning new special edition of the enduring modern classic Wintering is a comforting meditation on the fallow periods of life, times when we must retreat to care for and repair ourselves. Katherine May thoughtfully shows us how to come through these times with the wisdom of knowing that, like the seasons, our winters and summers are the ebb and flow of life. A moving personal narrative interwoven with lessons from literature, mythology and the natural world, May's story offers instruction on the transformative power of rest and retreat. Illumination emerges from many sources: solstice celebrations and dormice hibernation, C.S. Lewis and Sylvia Plath, swimming in icy waters and sailing arctic seas. Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times. May

Executioners Mask: Winterlong
God Macabre: The Winterlong
The most overlooked forefathers of Swedish Death Metal! Recorded in the early 90’s at the legendary Sunlight Studios! God Macabre formed in the end of the 80’s under the name Macabre End. In 1991 they changed their name to God Macabre and released one song for the Pantalgia compilation and an album through the small German label Mangled Beyond Recognition Records before splitting up. Originally released in 1993, “The Winterlong” was recorded at Stockholm’s legendary Sunlight Studios in 1991 and engineered by Tomas Skogsberg (Amorphis, At The Gates, Entombed). Now fully remastered and available again, “The Winterlong” reissue also contains four bonus tracks, including the band’s original 7” demo from 1990 plus the previously unreleased track, “Life’s Verge”, the first new God Macabre recording in over 20 years.

The Modified Golden Hive (Einraumbeute)
Horizontal hives with frames are becoming increasingly popular in Europe and North America. One of these is the golden hive or Einraumbeute, developed at Mellifera Association in Germany, based on Dadant-size frames rotated ninety degrees. The resulting deep format allows for a vertically uninterrupted brood nest and a deep honey crown that is good for wintering. This book describes modifications to the golden hive to buffer the colony against heat/cold extremes as does a tree cavity. With the help of many pictures, details are given of how to make the hive, followed by highlights of running it untreated for varroa over six seasons. A few other modified golden hive projects are also mentioned. About the author After retiring from research biochemistry to north-west Wales, David Heaf took up hobby beekeeping in 2003. He runs about 10 colonies in Warr hives and several in other hive types. In 2010, Northern Bee Books published his book The Bee Friendly Beekeeper and again invited him to
The Dry Season
From Melissa Febos, the national bestselling author of Girlhood, comes an examination of the solitude, freedoms, and feminist heroes she discovered during a year of celibacy and a wise and transformative look at relationships and self-knowledge. 'Only Melissa Febos could convince us of the ecstasy of abstinence. She never fails in her candor and precision.'--Katherine May, author of Wintering In the wake of a catastrophic two-year relationship, Melissa Febos decided to take a break: For three months she would abstain from dating, relationships, and sex. Her friends were amused. Did she really think three months was a long time? But to Febos, it was. Ever since her teens, she had been in one relationship after another with men and women. As she puts it, she could trace a 'daisy chain of romances' from her adolescence to her midthirties. Finally, she would carve out time to focus on herself and examine the patterns that had produced her midlife disaster. Over those first few months, she
Management-intensive Grazing
“I like to say that when you buy an acre of land you get 43,500 square feet of solar panel. When you start thinking about your farm in these terms, the importance of having every acre covered with green, growing grass becomes apparent,” Jim Gerrish writes. Gerrish coined the phrase Management-intensive Grazing (MiG), putting the emphasis on management of the growth of the grass. The animals are merely harvesters, like lawnmowers. In Management-intensive Grazing, The Grassroots of Grass Farming, he uses vivid images and detailed explanations to take graziers step-by-step through the MiG system. Written for those new to MiG grazing, Gerrish’s insights and personal experience can help experienced graziers fine tune their grazing operations for added income. He begins from the ground up with the soil and advances through the management of pastures and animals, and covers how to manage the water cycle; how to work with legumes; how to stockpile forages for low cost wintering; how to plan
Thin Skin: Essays
ONE OF TIME'S 100 MUST-READ BOOKS OF THE YEAR - A GOODREADS MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK - Examining capitalism's toxic creep into the land, our bodies, and our thinking, this incisive new work is 'a visceral exploration' (Katherine May, author of Wintering) from a National Book Award finalist and a powerful literary mind. 'A wrenching, loving and trenchant examination of feminism, nuclear weapons production, healthcare, queerness and American life' --Alexander Chee, author of How to Write an Autobiographical Novel For Jenn Shapland, the barrier between herself and the world is porous; she was even diagnosed with extreme dermatologic sensitivity--thin skin. Recognizing how deeply vulnerable we all are to our surroundings, she becomes aware of the impacts our tiniest choices have on people, places, and species far away. She can't stop seeing the ways we are enmeshed and entangled with everyone else on the planet. Despite our attempts to cordon ourselves off from risk, our boundaries are
Where to Watch Birds in Morocco
Morocco’s proximity and the variety of its habitats and bird species make it a favoured destination for birders. It is home to rare and endangered species such as Bald Ibis, Dark Chanting Goshawk, Tawny Eagle, Eleonora’s Falcon and African Marsh Owl. 454 species have been recorded, of which 209 breed in the country. As this statistic implies, millions of West European migrants pass seasonally through Morocco. Several wetlands spread along the Atlantic coast are famous for their migrant and wintering waders and gulls. The Atlas ranges are notable for their avifauna and desert species, including larks, wheatears and sandgrouses are found in the Saharan rim. This authoritative book describes over 50 birdwatching sites across Morocco. This book is not a field guide to species, rather it is a guide to the sites of key ornithological importance in Morocco. It contains information and detailed maps to enable you to plan a visit and provide guidance when you are on your trip. In addition, the
