This sword is an Oakeshott Type X with a Type I pommel and a Type VII crossguard. The Oakeshott typology was created by historian and illustrator Ewart Oakeshott as a way to define and catalogue the medieval sword based on physical form. It categorizes the swords of the European Middle Ages (roughly 11th to 15th centuries) into 13 main types labelled X to XXII. Oakeshott introduced it in his treatise The Archaeology of Weapons: Arms and Armour from Prehistory to the Age of Chivalry in 1960. The system is a continuation of Jan Petersen's typology of the Viking sword, introduced in De Norske Vikingsverd ("The Norwegian Viking Swords", 1919), modified in 1927 by R. E. M. Wheeler into a typology of nine types labelled I to IX. The long and wide fuller on this blade lightens the overall sword and make it possible to deliver fast and shearing cuts, capable of cutting through the mail and padding that were worn during the period. The long guard offers good protection from an opponent's shield or blade, while the classic wheel pommel brings the sword very nicely into balance. This rapier has a 1065 high carbon steel blade. Features heavy pommel and elaborate forward plates and guard. A rapier of this identical form and proportions is currently housed in The Royal Armouries (formerly the Tower of London). The flamboyantly formed hilt is both beautiful and functional. Its' forward plates are pierced and show lavish birds among foliage, while the bars of the guard are slender both defending the hand and having an upward loop to catch an opponent’s blade. The heavy pommel allows for a more balanced feel for fighting. This sword and its intricate scabbard are fit for one of those brave Nordic kings. Each steel part is handmade and incredibly detailed, especially on the leather embossed scabbard, then richly plated in real silver. The light, wide fullered Viking style blade is 1095 high carbon, well tempered steel. The scabbard is wood covered in rich harness grade leather with embossing and covered in faux reindeer fur. Windlass Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword
Beginning in the 14th century, Swiss pikemen established themselves as dominant mercenaries. But an equally courageous, stout competitor later appeared from Germany. Landsknecht troops challenged Swiss superiority in a "No Quarter" rivalry that lasted for years. The flamboyantly dressed German Landsknecht mercenary lived a harsh, brutal life and were famous for their giant, two-hand Flamberge sword. After using the Flamberge to break an enemy's row of front-line pikemen, a smaller, one-hand sword was employed for the ensuing close-quarters combat - the Katzbalger. Not as fancy as its slightly frivolous looking (but nonetheless deadly) big brother, the Katzbalger (roughly translates to "cat-gutter") was still highly styled and was designed to be an effective cut and thrust sword. Carried by all Landsknecht troops, including the pikemen and arquebusiers, this sword had an ornate "closed s" shaped guard and an extra long, fluted pommel. The Katzbalger was most assuredly respectful of its Renaissance roots. Our replica is just as battle ready as the originals. The beautifully rendered grip would do any Landskecht proud. The fluting in the pommel extends seamlessly into the wood grip, and the guard is expertly spiral twisted and terminates in half-spheres. The tempered, high carbon steel blade is adorned with a trio of fullers that slightly lighten the blade. The black leather scabbard is mildly decorated with leather bands that criss-cross and are knotted near the throat and has a unique steel tip. Guard is 107.95 mm wide. The blade is distal tapered (4.06 mm at the guard and 3.34 mm at the tip) which helps keep the sword's weight to only 1088.62 gram.

From the Celts of 300 BC to 18th century Asia, mail was one of the most prized items a warrior could own. The "Foe of Swords" probably derived the name "mail" from the Latin "Macula" meaning net. This shirt features 16 gauge links combined in the "international" pattern, with 4 links through a 5th, which was common to all European mail. Faithfully copied from examples in museums and private collections, the diameter of each outer link is about 11.11 mm, and the inner link diameter is about 9.52 mm. Mail shirts fit up to a 137 cm chest, 84 cm long shirt, sleeves are approximately 46 cm and hang to just below the elbows on average height warriors. We recommend keeping this butted mail shirt oiled when not in use.

Royal Armouries Sword #IX.1426 This arming sword in the Royal Armouries Collection dates to the late-15th century and is likely to be of English provenance. This type of sword is a medium-to-high status sidearm of the late-15th century and into the early 16th century, and would have been worn both with and without armour. It would have been a knightly backup weapon, used in combat both on foot and mounted. This sword shares some obvious similarities with the Westminster Abbey sword, which has been long associated with Henry V (but now believed to be from Henry VII's funeral achievements). It also shares a number of close similarities with other swords from English churches, and from representations of swords on English funeral effigies and brasses. Due to the state of preservation, it has been suggested that this sword may indeed have been taken from an English church monument in past centuries, where it was likely originally deposited in the late-15th century. Our replica is a precise, faithful replica, manufactured traditionally in very similar ways to the original. It features a robust cut and thrust Oakeshott Type XVIII blade of just over 30 inches, long curved quillons with characteristic terminals, short grip and prominent solid wheel pommel. The original has some unusual floral engraving at the base of the blade, which we have not replicated, because unfortunately on the original it is too damaged to reproduce with any certainty. The sheath is made with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features ornate cut-outs and an acorn tip. At the throat, the leather extends upward and covers part of the guard at the ricasso. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be seen in the Royal Armouries Collection, Object Number IX.1426.
