Musiken lever vidare.Albumet "Johan Rothstein" släpps den 27:e september 2019 , samma dag som 50-årsutgåvan av Beatles sista inspelade album "Abbey Road". En slump som Johan säkert gläds åt i sin himmel.Det självbetitlade albumet "Johan Rothstein" spelades in under perioden 2012-2016 och är producerat av Tony Thorén från Eldkvarn. Gitarrister på skivan är, förutom Johan, Christer Lyssarides, Kalle Westberg och Niklas Nordin. Tony Thorén spelar elbas, Andreas Quincy Dahlbäck spelar trummor och slagverk, Stephan Forkelid spelar piano och Claes von Heijne spelar keyboard.Johan växte upp på Lidingö, yngst i en syskonskara på tre. Beatles var hans väg in i musiken. "Det var som om en liten dörr öppnades till en stor, stor värld. Jag hade inte haft någon som helst kontakt med den världen tidigare - ingen i min familj spelade något instrument."Johan var med i ett antal olika bandkonstellationer på Lidingö innan han i slutet på 80-talet bildade Toms Tivoli tillsammans med några kompisar. Toms Tivoli turnerade flitigt och hann ge ut tre album på Hakws och Sonet mellan 1989 och 1994. Johan spelade gitarr och var gruppens sångare. Musiken var en blandning av folk- och gladpunk med visionära texter som "en äcklig liten pojke har blivit president"!Till slut tröttnade Johan på turnélivet och de olika spänningarna som kan uppstå i ett turnerande band. Han slutade i Toms tivoli och började skriva egna låtar. Efter 3-4 års låtskrivande så gav Johan ut en soloplatta med namnet "Sorgliga sånger" på MNW i oktober 2002. En nedtonad platta som visade fram en skörare sida av Johan. Titellåten från albumet användes som melodi till eftertexterna i Killinggängets långfilm "Fyra nyanser av brunt".I Peder Olssons intervjupod "Sticket" i februari 2014 berättar Johan om sitt sätt att se på musik. Där beskriver han några år av galna inspelningsförsök av detta Album, där han själv försökte spela in gitarrgrunderna till den nya skivan i sin lägenhet. Till slut bestämmer han sig för att spela in med ett antal vänner istället. "Jag fick omvärdera - och istället släppa kontrollen så mycket som möjligt. Inte försöka spela in en sak i taget utan så mycket som möjligt på en och samma gång." "Det är någonting när man skriver låtar som är magiskt, som man inte kommer åt, som man inte kan prata om, som man inte kan formulera. Det kommer någonstans ifrån som man når ibland. Det är också en dörr till någonting". "Jag upplever att varje låt består av ett frö eller en tändande gnista som man inte kan tvinga fram... Jag tror inte att det bara är ett hantverk, det är någonting mer mystiskt också." "Man måste verkligen sätta sig och ge sig hän och försöka öppna de här dörrarna... ibland öppnar de sig inte och då händer ingenting... och när man väl får upp dem så vet man inte vad som finns där, man kan inte bestämma det - det kommer bara."Att Johan inte finns med oss är en enorm förlust.
