Putte Wickman var en av världens främsta klarinettister, känd för sin vackra ton och för sin musikaliska bredd. Den här boken är baserad på en lång intervju med Putte, där han berättar om sitt liv som musiker under mer än sex decennier. Den livfulla berättelsen kryddas med dråpliga anekdoter om färgstarka kollegor, omfattande konsertturnéer och mer eller mindre galna upptåg något som präglade spjuvern Putte under alla år. Till denna berättelse har Jan Bruér fogat minnen förmedlade av en rad människor som kände Putte väl musikervänner, familjemedlemmar, journalister etc. Tillsammans bildar dessa minnen en mosaik som ges ytterligare liv av ett rikt bildmaterial. Många av bilderna har aldrig tidigare varit publicerade. Boken avslutas med en diskografi, som täcker allt som spelats in och getts ut i Putte Wickmans namn. Som bonus har Jan Bruér ställt samman en CD med delvis unikt material från Puttes hela karriär mellan 1945 och 2005. Skivan inleds med historieberättaren Wickman och vad som hände när han boxades med Miles Davis. Jan Bruér är jazzforskare och musikproducent. Sin första kontakt med Putte Wickman hade han 1956, då han som 13-åring intervjuade musikanten för en lokaltidning. Följande personer har bidragit med sina minnen av Putte Wickman: Svend Asmussen, Hans Backenroth, Hasse Burman, Claes Crona, Kjerstin Dellert, Anders Eljas, Göran Fristorp, Martin Fröst, Per Goldschmidt, Rune Gustafsson, Lars Jansson, Hasse Kahn, Erik Kjellberg, Vicky von der Lancken, Gunnar Lindgren, Lisa Linn, Jan Lundgren, Wenche Myhre, Göran Olson, Janne Schaffer, Jonas Sima, Gustaf Sjökvist, Bosse Sylvén, Viktoria Tolstoy, Lars Westin, Basse Wickman, Sylvia Wickman, Rune Öfwerman , Pétur Island Östlund. Boken var väntad. Den måste komma, det bara är så. Men det blev en annorlunda biografi sammanställd av Jan Bruér. Det är fakta och minnesord. Putte Wickman, klarinettist är titeln som egentligen säger allt Boken måste rekommenderas och det inte bara till jazzintresserade.
