Enestående biografi om forskerparret August og Marie Krogh - pionerer i den danske medicinske verden. Der findes mennesker, der trods deres storhed, indsigt og resultater insisterer på, at det ikke handler om dem. Sådan nogle mennesker var Marie og August Krogh. Hun blev Danmarks kun fjerde kvindelige dr. med. i 1914, året før kvinder fik stemmeret. Han fik Nobelprisen i 1920. Sammen gik de op imod den etablerede videnskab og løste lungernes gåde. Og sammen skaffede de insulinopskriften til Danmark, hvor de lagde grunden til Novo Nordisk. Parret var for dansk videnskab, hvad Pierre og Marie Curie var for den franske, men der er ikke rejst nogle statuer til deres ære.
