The Autobiography of Madame Jeanne Guyon
Jeanne-Marie Bouvier de la Motte-Guyon, commonly known as Madame Guyon, was a French aristocrat and profound lover of Jesus who lived from 1648 to 1717. She was censured, arrested and imprisoned from 1695 to 1703 after publishing the book, 'A Short and Easy Method of Prayer'. Guyon became passionate about her growing relationship with God during a time when that very belief was considered heresy. Guyon became convinced that prayer without ceasing was the central action in devoting all of one's life to God. 'Prayer is the key of perfection and of sovereign happiness; it is the efficacious means of getting rid of all vices and of acquiring all virtues; for the way to walk in perfection is to live in the presence of God. He tells us this himself: 'walk before Me and be blameless' Genesis 17:1. Prayer alone can bring you into His presence, and keep you there continually'. Madame Guyon's seminal work, 'A Short and Easy Method of Prayer' has touched the lives of influential Christians for

Madame Bovary
This exquisite novel tells the story of one of the most compelling heroines in modern literature--Emma Bovary. Unhappily married to a devoted, clumsy provincial doctor, Emma revolts against the ordinariness of her life by pursuing voluptuous dreams of ecstasy and love. But her sensuous and sentimental desires lead her only to suffering corruption and downfall. A brilliant psychological portrait, Madame Bovary searingly depicts the human mind in search of transcendence. Who is Madame Bovary? Flaubert's answer to this question was superb: 'Madame Bovary, c'est moi.' Acclaimed as a masterpiece upon its publication in 1857, the work catapulted Flaubert to the ranks of the world's greatest novelists. This volume, with its fine translation by Lowell Bair, a perceptive introduction by Leo Bersani, and a complete supplement of essays and critical comments, is the indispensable Madame Bovary.

Madame Bovary
