Joan Didion: The Last Interview

The iconic writer whose prose was as influential and as it is unmistakably hers is joined in conversation with Sheila Heti, Hilton Als, Dave Eggers, Hari Kunzru and many more. Some writers define a generation. Some a genre. Joan Didion did both, and much more. Didion rose to prominence with her nonfiction collection, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, and she quickly became the writer who defined the washed-out, acid hangover of the 60s. But the bicoastal writer of fiction and nonfiction, whose writing ranged from profoundly personal essays and raw, intimate memoirs was equally a writer focused on international affairs, political intrigue, and social justice. This collection encompasses it all, in conversations that delve into her underappreciated mid-career works, her influences, the loss of her husband and daughter, and her most infamous essays. Far from the evasive image of a terse minimalist that has come to dominate the image of Joan Didion, what this collection reveals is a warm,

Joan Snyder: Body & Soul

Rigorous interrogation of abstraction underpinned by a feminist outlook For six decades, American artist Joan Snyder (born 1940) has reimagined the narrative potential of abstraction through her paintings, drawings and prints, consciously working against the male-dominated conventions of Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting prevalent at her career's start. This publication celebrates the work of this pioneering artist, featuring stunning reproductions of 46 of her paintings, spanning from the early 1960s to the present day. In addition to full images of the works, high-quality detail shots allow readers to immerse themselves in the rich materiality of her work. The catalog includes archival imagery and sketches from Snyder's personal notebooks, offering an intimate glimpse into her artistic process. Texts by writer Emily LaBarge and art historian Susan L. Aberth provide insight, deepening our understanding of the motifs and techniques of Snyder's practice.

Låt Mig Berätta Vad Jag Menar

Joan Didion föddes i Sacramento, Kalifornien 1934 och dog i New York 2021.

The Boston Globe Även det meningslösa får betydelse. Let Me Tell You What I Mean

A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF THE YEAR - NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER - From one of our most iconic and influential writers, the award-winning author of The Year of Magical Thinking a timeless collection of mostly early pieces that reveal what would become Joan Didion's subjects, including the press, politics, California robber barons, women, and her own self-doubt. With a forward by Hilton Als, these twelve pieces from 1968 to 2000, never before gathered together, offer an illuminating glimpse into the mind and process of a legendary figure. They showcase Joan Didion's incisive reporting, her empathetic gaze, and her role as 'an articulate witness to the most stubborn and intractable truths of our time' (The New York Times Book Review). Here, Didion touches on topics ranging from newspapers ('the problem is not so much whether one trusts the news as to whether one finds it'), to the fantasy of San Simeon, to not getting into Stanford. In 'Why I Write,' Didion ponders the act of

Slouching Towards Bethlehem

Celebrated, iconic, and indispensable, Joan Didion's first work of nonfiction, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, is considered a watershed moment in American writing. First published in 1968, the collection was critically praised as one of the 'best prose written in this country.' More than perhaps any other book, this collection by one of the most distinctive prose stylists of our era captures the unique time and place of Joan Didion's focus, exploring subjects such as John Wayne and Howard Hughes, growing up in California and the nature of good and evil in a Death Valley motel room, and, especially, the essence of San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, the heart of the counterculture. As Joyce Carol Oates remarked: ' Didion] has been an articulate witness to the most stubborn and intractable truths of our time, a memorable voice, partly eulogistic, partly despairing; always in control.'

Play It As It Lays

A ruthless dissection of American life in the late 1960s, Joan Didion's Play It as It Lays captures the mood of an entire generation, the ennui of contemporary society reflected in spare prose that blisters and haunts the reader. Set in a place beyond good and evil---literally in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and the barren wastes of the Mojave Desert, but figuratively in the landscape of an arid soul---it remains more than three decades after its original publication a profoundly disturbing novel, riveting in its exploration of a woman and a society in crisis and stunning in the still-startling intensity of its prose.

Notes To John

An extraordinary work from the author of The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights In November 1999, Joan Didion began seeing a psychiatrist because, as she wrote to a friend, her family had had ?a rough few years? She described the sessions in a journal she created for her husband, John Gregory Dunne. For several months, Didion recorded conversations with the psychiatrist in meticulous detail. The initial sessions focused on alcoholism, adoption, depression, anxiety, guilt, and the heartbreaking complexities of her relationship with her daughter, Quintana. The subjects evolved to include her work, which she was finding difficult to maintain for sustained periods. There were discussions about her own childhood misunderstandings and lack of communication with her mother and father, her early tendency to anticipate catastrophe and the question of legacy, or, as she put it? what it's been worth? The analysis would continue for more than a decade.Didion's journal was crafted with the singular intelligence, precision, and elegance that characterize all of her writing. It is an unprecedently intimate account that reveals sides of her that were unknown, but the voice is unmistakably hers questioning, courageous, and clear in the face of a wrenchingly painful journey.

Kalifornien - Min Historia
