Stigfinnaren [The Pathfinder, 1840] av James Fenimore Cooper. James Fenimore Cooper [1789 - 1851], född i New Jersey, USA, var en amerikansk författare verksam under första hälften av 1800-talet. Efter studier på Yale University tjänstgjorde Cooper i den amerikanska flottan vilket också kom att påverka hans författarskap. Cooper är mest känd för sina böcker om den amerikanska ursprungsbefolkningen och kanske främst för Den siste mohikanen [1826].
