Hän valmistui Helsingin yliopistosta filosofian kandidaatiksi vuonna 1882. Hän teki työuransa Jyväskylän lyseossa venäjän kielen opettajana. Hän suomensi muun muassa Dostojevskin "Muistelmia kuolleesta talosta", joka julkaistiin Suomessa vuonna 1888.
