Elton John och Bernie Taupin - ett av historiens mest kompletta låtskrivarpar. Man skulle kunna vakna kallsvettig ur en mardröm där slumpen gör att de aldrig träffas, men som tur var gjorde dom det. 1973 hade de ett kreativt flyt som bara vällde fram. "It just flowed" säger Bernie nu. När inspelningarna av "Goodbye yellow brick road" startade hade föregående albumet "Don't shoot me I'm only the piano player" inte hunnit ut till skivbutikerna än. De begav sig till Jamaica för att spela in plattan, men problem uppstod och de fick bege sig till Château d'Hérouville i Paris, där de var mer hemtama. Då hade antalet låtar hunnit svälla ut och det fick helt enkelt bli ett dubbelalbum. Inspelningen av plattan tog två veckor! Det var som sagt flyt. Hela albumet genomsyras av en nostalgisk känsla som är enorm. Vid koncentrerad lyssning är det nästan som att se en film, Taupins ord gör de magnifika låtarna levande. Inledningen - den 11 minuter långa "Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding" sätter prägeln. Det är hisnande. Sedan rullar det på med "Candle in the wind" och "Bennie and the Jets" och fortsätter på samma höga nivå tills de sista tonerna av "Harmony" tonat ut. Magiskt. Remastringen till denna utgåva av "Goodbye yellow brick road" är mycket lyckad, ett lugnt och naturligt sound. Och det är detta mästerverk värt.
