Frank bor med sin mamma i en mellansvensk stad som i folkmun kallas Lilla Paris. Vägen till vuxenlivet är dock långt ifrån idyllisk med en våldsam far och en ängslig och underkuvad mor. Parallellt med Franks historia får vi följa den svenska skolan genom olika stadier. Händelserna som skildras speglar den verklighet som många lärare och elever har idag. Det är en berättelse som både roar och upprör läsaren genom att avslöja en rad av svek och där Frank står för en uppriktighet som ibland saknas i maktens korridorer. Boken kan läsas med behållning av alla som på något sätt har med barn och ungdomar att göra, som förälder, lärare eller befattningshavare. Kristina Hurtig är mellanstadielärare utbildad i Karlstad 1975 och hon är fortfarande verksam i skolan. Hon har stor erfarenhet av barn och undervisning och har sett många reformer komma och gå under årens lopp. Vad vi som jobbar i skolan behöver är lugn och ro, anser Hurtig. Den senaste läroplanen är bra, men vi måste få tid och verktyg att implementera den. Läroplanerna byts ut med allt kortare mellanrum och varje ny regering vill sätta sin prägel på skolan. Det håller inte. Låt oss få slippa fler nya påfund de närmaste tio åren så att vi har en chans att komma i ordning. Och inte minst - låt oss acceptera att vi bara är människor, som gör så gott vi kan, även vi som är lärare.

Trions enda bagage är ett från Kronborg bortfört föremål som kommer att få stor betydelse för deras framtid. Den vilsna färden, som leder in i högst skiftande miljöer blir till slut målinriktad. Berättelsen har genom sin uppbyggnad beröringspunkter med filmgenren road-movie. Recension: Holm har skrivit en underhållande bok som har smak av pikaresroman; det handlar om sorglösa och vänsälla människor som utvecklat livsinsikt och illusionslöshet. En dråplig men mångbottnad historia - inte utan en knivsudd svärta och melankoli.
