Founded by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is a renowned winery in the Rhone Valley with vineyards spread across the most prestigious appellations in the area, including Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage and Condrieu. Since 1961, the company has been led by Marcel, Etienne's son, who is now supported by his son Philippe. Over the years, the Domaine has also acquired other properties such as Château d’Ampuis, in 1995. Domaine Guigal’s Hermitage Rouge is a benchmark among the region’s wines. The Syrah grapes are harvested manually from vines of around 30 years old located in Beaumes, Méal, Bessards, and Hermite on calcareous-clayey and sandy-gravelly soils. After vinification in stainless steel, the finished wine is aged in oak barrels (50% new). In the glass, the wine displays a splendid intense ruby color with brilliant purple highlights. Its aromatic profile is broad and fragrant with notes of small red fruits and spices interspersed with light woody notes. On the palate, it is intense and full-bodied, concentrated and juicy with firm and well-integrated tannins and a long finish that recalls licorice and spices. It is the ideal wine to serve with lamb tagine or canard confit.
Guigal Condrieu La Doriane 2023
Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Founded by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is located in the Cote Rotie, more precisely in Ampuis. Today, the estate, which has vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of the region (including Condrieu, Gigondas, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph), is run by the third generation of the family. Viognier grapes are selected and harvested by hand from vineyards on steep slopes with granite soils. The vines, which are about 35 years old, are grown according to sustainable agriculture practices. After harvesting and vinifying, the wine rests in small new oak barrels for about a year. Condrieu La Doriane is an expressive and intensely fragrant wine, with a broad and complex aromatic profile that reveals notes of stone fruit and yellow fruit, followed by hints of orange blossom in the background. On the palate, it is rich and round, powerful and elegant with a delicately viscous texture typical of Condrieu wines. It is fresh and well-balanced with a long and floral finish. It is a wine capable of aging very well but can be enjoyed now with pumpkin risotto, pork chops in apple sauce, or goose liver escalope.

Guigal owns unique vineyards in terroirs of enormous prestige. Founded in 1946, the company, now led by Marcel Guigal and his son Philippe, the second and third generations of the family, acquired the famous Chateau d'Ampuis in 1995. The Syrah and Viognier grapes for the Cote Rotie Château d'Ampuis are selected from a vineyard that includes some terroirs of great quality and prestige (including Le Clos "Côte Blonde", La Pommière "Côte Brune", Le Pavillon Rouge "Côte Brune"), with vines planted on steep terraces on biotitic and muscovitic granite soils. After vinification, the finished wine rests in oak barrels for 38 months. In the glass, the wine reveals a bright and deep color with dark red tones and some nuances that tend towards purple. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of ripe black fruits and baking spices, interspersed with delicate woody notes. On the palate, it is expressive and concentrated, powerful and well-structured with firm and well-integrated tannins and a long finish that recalls notes of dark fruits and vanilla. It can remain in the cellar for several years, but for those who cannot resist the temptation to open a bottle, best to decant it and serve it with red meat or game.

Their wines are widely regarded by the public and critics for their excellent elegance and aging potential. Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde is a classic blend of Syrah with small additions of the white variety Viognier. The grapes are selected and harvested from plots located on steep terraces in Côte-Blonde (on schistose and silico-calcareous soils) and Côte-Brune (on soils rich in iron oxides). After vinification in steel tanks, the finished wine is aged in oak barrels (50% new) for at least 3 years. This elegant Cote Rotie reveals a brilliant color with dark ruby tones and an expressive and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of ripe red berries and blackberries, spices, and toasted notes. On the palate, it is rich and intense with a pleasant fruit concentration and velvety tannins. It has a light refreshing acidity that gives balance and a long and pleasantly spicy finish. It is excellent with pigeon or roast duck and game stews.
