Domaine Charvin Chateauneuf du Pape 2022

Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for a couple of hours. Located in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Domaine Charvin was founded in 1851 by Guillaume Charvin and is now run by Laurent Charvin, the sixth generation of the family. The estate is known for its preference for organic methods and a non-interventionist approach to viticulture. The use of pesticides and herbicides is avoided in the vineyard to promote a healthy ecosystem and produce wines that reflect the terroir of origin. Domaine Charvin's Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, hand-picked in one of the coolest areas of the appellation. After fermentation, the wine rests in concrete vats for 18 months before bottling. The wine has a bright and intense dark ruby color and a broad and exuberant aromatic profile with ripe red fruits, floral notes of rose and violet, and spicy touches. On the palate, it is ripe, juicy and powerful. It has a medium body and a fleshy texture. It has a dense tannic backbone and a long and concentrated finish. It is an elegant and complex wine capable of aging for a couple of decades, but can already be enjoyed now paired with grilled meats, veal ossobuco, and mushroom pies.

Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2023

Drink now or cellar for up to 8 years. Serve chilled. One of the oldest and largest châteaux in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the historic Chateau La Nerthe estate can be traced right back to 1560 when it was founded by the Tulle de Villefranche family. In recent years it has established a reputation for well-made Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds as well as the lesser-known white Châteauneuf-du-Pape like this bottling. In total the chateau has 92 hectares of vineyards which are divided into 57 distinct plots, allowing the winemakers to pick and choose exactly what goes into each cuvee. This particular white is composed of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne along with a dash of Clairette and Bourboulenc for extra complexity. The vines are planted on sandy soils scattered with the region’s characteristic large galets stones which are thought to enhance the elegance and finesse of the wine. There’s also a natural stream and woodland close by which helps to cool down the vineyards at night during the warm summer months to preserve freshness and varietal typicity. In the glass there’s an enticing golden yellow hue with hints of ripe apricots, peaches, and vanilla spice from the 9 months of ageing in oak barrels. On the palate there’s a solid core of ripe orchard fruit balanced by zingy citrus and hints of ginger on the long finish. Thanks to the intensity and purity of this wine, it’s a great option to cellar for a few more years or enjoy now with dishes like roast chicken, risottos, or grilled fish served in a creamy sauce.

Domaine Du Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee 2020

Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant 1 hour before serving. Domaine du Pegau is owned by the Feraud family who can trace their roots right back to the 17th century in the Southern Rhone. Daughter Laurence and father Paul work tirelessly to produce traditional-style Châteauneuf du Pape wines. Regarded as one of the region’s top producers, Pegau has 11 parcels of prime vineyards in Courthézon, La Solitude and Bédarrides which cover around 47 acres in total. Their Cuvée Reserve is predominantly composed of Grenache along with a smaller proportion of Syrah and Mourvèdre, Counoise and other varieties. All of their grapes are harvested by hand and then fermented without destemming to add complexity. The young wine is then aged in large oak foudres for an average of 24 months. There is no fining or filtering before bottling to preserve the authentic character of the wine. The nose opens with dark berry notes, licorice, leather and dried herbs while the first sip reveals a full body, firm tannins and very long finish. On the palate there are intense cherry, plum and cassis notes seasoned with black pepper, tobacco leaf and hints of cigar box spice from the oak maturation. A great addition to the cellar or partner for hearty red meat dishes.

Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape La Dame Voyageuse 2022

Drink now or cellar for up to 9 years. Decant for 1 hour before serving. This magnificent Châteauneuf-du-Pape is carefully composed of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, and Vaccarese grapes sourced from the Delorme family’s estate. All of the grapes are harvested by hand from 60 year old vines that are planted on pebbly limestone soils which help to intensify the concentrated and aromatic flavour profile found in the finished wine. When they arrive at the vineyard the grapes are destemmed and then undergo an extended maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is then aged in a combination of used oak casks and stainless steel tanks to help preserve freshness and the pure varietal character. The result is a charming Chateauneuf-du-Pape which opens with crushed strawberry, raspberry and violet aromas. The first sip reveals a full body and firm structure which is artfully balanced by a fresh acidity and intense dried fruit, ripe plum and licorice flavours. The soft, ripe tannins and long finish make this an ideal wine to serve with rich foods like cooked hams, a fine steak or a hearty beef stew. It is also an excellent partner for mature cheeses, charcuterie, and red meats served in a rich tomato sauce.
