1885. Till Buffalo Bill Codys show anländer legendskrivaren Buntline. Bill ber sin partner Nate att försöka få iväg Buntline, eftersom han själv intresserar sig mer för ankomsten av indianen Sitting Bull. Denne begär genom sitt ombud Halsey att hans trupp skall få bo på andra sidan av floden, att alla får filtar, att han får sex veckors förskott samt att Bull också kommer för att han drömt om att möta presidenten. Efter ytterligare krav avskedar Bill indianerna. Skarpskytten Annie Oakley hotar med att säga upp sig om inte indianerna återanställs. Bull kommer tillbaka självmant efter att ha givit sig iväg.
