Vi skulle ha ridit ut stormen, detta anser jag även idag. Men vi gjorde det inte. För när stormen väl kom, så vågade han inte och han stack huvudet i sanden. Sedan tog sagan slut. Sida vid sida, men på milslångt avstånd från varandra, och med den där äckliga cigaretten i munnen Jonna bor i Sverige tillsammans med sin holländska man Max och sina tonårstvillingar. När hon får reda på att hennes svärfar Arthur lagts in med hjärnblödning bestämmer hon sig för att skydda sin familj och vänta med att ringa Max, som är på semester med barnen. I stället åker hon själv till sjukhuset i Leiden. Detta beslut skapar en fnurra på tråden och fnurran blir snart en rejäl knut, da Jonna får en helt annan bild av sin svärfar. Jonnas och Max olika syn på Arthur blir som en avgrund mellan dem. Arthur är en berättelse om den destruktiva kraften av att bära på familjehemligheter och om nödvändigheten i att lyfta på slöjan för att kunna göra sig fri.
