Luonnon yhteys arkkitehtuuriin on arkkitehti Alvar Aallon suunnittelutyön kiinnostavimpia piirteitä. Aalto yhdisti taitavasti maiseman osaksi suunniteltua ympäristöä ja rakensi luonnolle mahdollisuuden kasvaa osaksi arkkitehtuuria: ”Kaikki minkä kotoiseen maaperään liitämme, on tehtävä niin, ettei se pilaa vain päinvastoin jalostaa ennen 'puhdasta luontoa' ollutta maisemaamme.” Kirja esittelee ensi kertaa kattavasti Aallon tuotantoa puutarhataiteen ja maisema-arkkitehtuurin kannalta. Suunnittelutyöhönsä ja näkemyksiinsä hän sai vaikutteita niin Suomen luonnosta kuin Välimeren maiden kulttuurimaisemista, antiikin maailmasta tai Japanin puutarhoista.
