This odd-looking fly actually looks a lot better wet in the water. The brutal hackle slims down and it swims beautiful. This is one of our favorite flies for Em’s big sea trout. It carries Mikael’s favourite pool’s name where it caught many nice sea trout, a few over 20 lbs. We fish it slow and let the seductive hackle do the trick. A good silhouette and lots of motion, that’s what these big trout love.

When I prefer a decent size hitch on the very clear river this is my choice. I fish it square and sometimes pull it across. The Firebird FH31 Model immediately attracts attention with its design, and the connoisseurs of quality knives highly praise its performance. This knife is recommended for trips to nature, as well as auxiliary use in urban environments. It will be useful to perform almost any work, which means that it is the best fit for tourists, fishermen, athletes and all other active people. The blade for this model is made of popular steel with high carbon content – D2. This stainless alloy, the corrosion resistance of which is increased by the addition of chromium and nickel. Mikael very often leaves out the rubber legs, in fact for him rubber legs seem to attract the sea trout more than the salmon.

We call them classics because of the way they are tied: a wing dividing the front hackles and with the balancing 1/2 turbo cone as head. Most of our flies originates from this family, the complex fly with all ingredients. To us these are the most fun to both tie and fish – they are the classics of our time! The Banana Fly concept has been popular ever since Micke Andersson showed the world how good the dirty yellow fly could be. For Mikael personally he fished his Scott and Moonshine flies long before he created this version. We tinted it to the olive side and pimped it a bit classic style with the dyed teal hackle. We prefer to fish this in the humus coloured river when we need a discrete fly to stand out a bit more than my overall favourite Pahtakorva. We seldom fish them bigger than 10 cm or smaller than 4, for us it’s a medium sized fly.

Lansky Sharpeners Lansky Folding Diamond Tapered Sharpening Rod
Sharpens regular and SERRATED blades, fish hooks, gut hooks, and many other tools. The fine (600 grit) tapered rod folds into the ergonomic nylon impregnated plastic handle for protection and ease of carrying. The American made Lansky Tapered Diamond Rod is ideal for every workshop. Renown for their hardness, diamonds are an excellent abrasive for the fast reconditioning and maintenance of all your various tools and knives. Steps: Begin by opening the plastic handles. Lock the handles together for safe use. To sharpen a knife, hold the sharpener handles firmly in one hand and the knife in the other. Place the end of the sharpener on a stable surface. Draw the knife edge down the rod at the proper angle, as if you were attempting to slice a thin layer off the rod. Repeat this motion 3 – 4 times using light to moderate pressure. Maintain a consistent angle for the best results. Switch to the other side of the blade's edge and repeat the sharpening process to finish the edge. Sharpening Serrations: Sharpen one serration at a time. Hold your knife firmly in one hand and bring the tapered rod to an individual serration, as shown in the photo. Match the serration’s angle with the tapered rod while pulling the sharpener against the serration. Repeat this motion until the serration is sharp, then move on to the next serration. When you have finished sharpening each serration, bring the tapered rod to the opposite side of the serrated section, hold the rod flat along the flat grind and remove any burs that may have been created by sharpening. Do not use lubrication of any kind while using diamond sharpeners. Note: Do not apply oil to Lansky Diamond surface: clean diamond hones with water and wipe shavings away with a lint-free rag. Diamond hones should be completely dry before next use.

This gives us many beautiful fish, fish it in the magic hour when the light is fading. And when tying it don’t be afraid to give it a bit broader back, that way it creates a better silhouette for the dark night.

Secure the loose hook with FITS tubing in S or XS. A true old favourite of ours. BGH has been in the boxes more than 25 years now and given us many memorable salmon. Black and chartreuse colours are as classic for clear waters as orange and brown for slightly coloured. We love that greenish water, Litza, Gaula, Aa, Laerdal and in many, many other rivers black and green flies out fish the most. Even in this small version it’s a great standard fly to fish maybe specially on that cloudy summer day.
