The film follows Ciao Ciao (Xueqin Liang) as she returns home from Guangzhou to visit her parents in rural Yunnan. Back in the poverty-stricken mountain village, Ciao Ciao struggles to readjust to the locals' slow way of life and rejects her duty to help her ailing parents.
