In this season, Alex returns to Litchfield and reconciles her fractured relationship with Piper while Red (Kate Mulgrew) takes on new ventures to fund her outside criminal associates. The past lives of some of Piper's fellow inmates are explored in flashbacks, including Big Boo (Lea DeLaria), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) and Chang (Lori Tan Chinn).
