Texas Ranger David Kingston (Hemsworth) is sent to investigate a string of murders and mysterious disappearances. Kingston sets out to find a preacher named Abraham Brant (Harrelson) who is a force to be reckoned with and Kingston discovers the local townsfolk are afraid to cross him. When Kingston was a boy, the preacher killed his father in what was known as a 'Helena Duel', where men are made to fight with a knife in one hand and tied to each other's wrists with the other.
