A young married couple, the Morrisons (Toni Collette and Ioan Gruffudd), have been in mourning for the death of their child for a number of years and are now trying desperately to have another baby. Due to difficulties conceiving they consider adoption, but as their application goes in to the adoption agency, a young boy, Eli (Maurice Cole), turns up on their dooprstep.
