Emilia Galotti

Lessing's Theological Writings
A Stanford University Press classic.
Laokoon / Briefe, antiquarischen Inhalts

Angelic Life
What is Authentic Orthodox monasticism? Why do the saints call it the light of the world and the boast of the Church? What does it take to become a monk? What is the inner life of a true monk? What is his purpose, and how can he measure his progress? This book answers these questions by letting the holy Fathers speak for themselves. In this treatise we have compiled and commented on two thousand patristic quotes (some appearing in English for the first time) showing how authentic monasticism is indeed the angelic life. But this book is much more than just a compilation of what others have already written. It is also permeated with the personal vision and ideals of Elder Ephraim's former cell-attendant in Arizona. Thus, not only does it present traditional monastic teachings on obedience, virginity, poverty, and prayer, but it also delves into contemporary aspects of life in general, such as interpersonal relationships, the true role of a leader, good disobedience, the internet, and

Shikasta: Re, Colonised Planet 5
A disturbing allegory, centered around a planet called Shikasta, which bears remarkable similarities to Earth. Through time, a higher planet, Canopus, has documented the progress of Shikasta and tried to distract its inhabitants from the evil influence of the planet Shammat, but the Shikastans continue to hurl themselves toward annihilation. This is the first volume in the series of novels Doris Lessing calls collectively 'Canopus in Argos: Archives.' Presented as a compilation of documents, reports, letters, speeches and journal entries, this purports to be a general study of the planet Shikasta-clearly the planet Earth-to be used by history students of the higher planet Canopus and to be stored in the Canopian archives. For eons, galactic empires have struggled against one another, and Shikasta is one of the main battlegrounds. Johar, an emissary from Canopus and the primary contributor to the archives, visits Shikasta over the millennia from the time of the giants and the biblical
